Well, that's why this site looked like sites used to look like when I was using mobile phone browsers to surf WebTV in its waning days -- because Android is a mobile phone browser. Those of you who weren't on WebTV during the last few years before it shut down may not know what I'm talking about. Surfing on WebTV had become such a problem that a lot of us learned the trick of using mobile phone browsers to surf the net. You would go to a mobile phone browser site and put in the url of the page you wanted to go to, and you would get a fast-loading, stripped down version of the site. Here is one of the mobile phone browsers I used to use on WebTV: mlvb.net/

Wow, Cathy. From what you have described, WebTV must have been a real mess in those final years. I switched to MSNTV2 before finally buying a computer. I'm on my 2nd computer now, but think I saw the mobile phone browser version of my @msn.com email account on the first computer before I chucked it. Everything was bunched up on the left side of the page.

Pete I'm getting it everytime I clear my cookies, not that big of a deal.

Nancy, you're right--not a big deal. As for cookies, I've got Firefox set to clear all cookies each time I close it. Plus I've got the Better Privacy FF add-on set to delete all flash cookies on closing. And I've got Privacy Badger blocking tracking cookies.

Well I am getting it every now and then and I don't clear cookies and cache. Also I have been on ProBoards for a long time and just this past week is the first time I have ever seen the sniffer. So far this is the only forum I have seen the sniffer on so far.

I also got the browser sniffer message more than once today, and like David, I don't routinely clear cookies and cache. I also get another message with a guy on the right side of my screen, but I can't remember what he says. Both things occur every day, but by now I know that they are temporary.

Sandy, I think you're referring to the screen below. If so I believe one gets that notice due to a time-out. I say that 'cause this a.m. I was viewing this group then closed my laptop while it was still booted-up so I could go do something else. When I do that my wi-fi connection is disconnected. When I then later open my laptop my wi-fi is reconnected. And I then get that screen. Now it could be that if I only left my laptop & didn't close it that Proboards would somehow detect the inactivity & that too would trigger that screen. Proboards may have a time limit for inactivity & when that limit is reached ones connection to this group is cut off. Likely for security reasons. Do you get the screen below 'cause of inactivity within the group for awhile & then see it when you return to use the group?

Pete - Yes, I see that screen due to inactivity at the forum for a while. I may leave the site and return a few times during the day, but that message is rare, not the norm.
Also, my computer's WiFi connection is hardly ever disconnected during the day; it only "sleeps" when not in use. I have it set to shut down automatically overnight. Oddly enough though, when I return to the forum in the morning after being shut down for several hours, I never see that screen.
In my case, I don't get the impression that Proboards has a time limitation for inactivity. That screen in question appears too sporadically to have any rhyme or reason. Another oddity, it often appears after I have clicked onto a post I'm preparing to read.

Sandy, you're right, I'd forgotten that I've seen that Sorry screen appear when I was clicking around in the group. So, there goes my inactivity theory out the window.

Pete I get that screen quite often in the early morning while they're doing maintenance in here and I get it whenever I come to this forum and the forum is down. I also get it occasionally when I'm making a post. I never get it during inactivity in here.
I also get it in Phil's forum so it's not something that's only happening in this group BUT the browser sniffer I see only in this forum so you may want to check through your settings to see if you have something set to check for browsers in here.

Cathy, out of curiosity I plugged-in this group's URL into that mobilizer you posted. And the result was similar to the stripped-down version I described before, but it did have some of the graphics.
