Over the past 10 years, prices at the restaurants studied grew at nearly double the national rate of inflation. In the case of the first five chains that ranked at the top, prices increased at more than double — and McDonald’s prices grew more than three times —the national rate of inflation.
Here’s a look at some price hikes.

I noted that Subway raised their prices less than all the others. Recently, they have advertised on TV "Buy one, get one free" offers. I really like their "footlongs," so have taken advantage of that offer. MacDonalds, on the other hand, raised their prices 100% times the inflation rate, which I think is downright greedy. So, they can take their big Macs - and shove them.

Sandy, I saw where McD's Big Mac meal, burger, fries & a drink, is now $18. Ha! They can keep it.
I get subs at a local sub shop, it's not a national chain even though they've got several stores. I only ever get a 6" for my lunch.

A 6 inch ?? That's just an appetizer. LOL I do love Subway and anything less than their "foot long" is just a snack.

Dave, a 6" is a meal for me. At least for lunch. Besides a sub I just eat a sandwich for my noon meal.

Wife and I stopped at an out of town eatery today. One that we enjoy when we visit her eye doctor, but it's not a fancy place.
Always good food and service. Today we each had a chicken pot pie and coffee. Good sized portions and tasty. $42+ without the tip.
We're talking about food prices so just wondered - - good price, sound high, or cheaper than you'd expect ?

Dave, $42? Whoa, way higher than I'd ever expect for two pot pies. Unless they each were the size of a Frisbee.

$42 for 2 pot pies and coffee sounds pretty steep to me. However, I've only ever eaten the small frozen Banquet pot pies sold in grocery stores for something around 99 cents. Those are pretty good, most especially for the price.

Pete, didn't you buy Subway sandwiches - the national chain - at the mall where you worked?

Sandy, yeah & you've got a good memory. And 'cause I was a mall employee Subway would give me a 20% discount. On another note: where I bought my sub the other day they've got 6", foot-long & 2-foot-long subs. I've got a friend who gets the 2-foot & eats it all in one sitting.

Not quite frisbee size, Pete. It was one of those oval shaped dishes that are commonly used in restaurants. Also a side of mashed potatoes. Not complaining about the meal. Just wondered if folks thought it was a little steep at 42 bucks?

Dave, my friend always eats like that, extra-large helpings of whatever he's eating.
But he's not fat, even though he goes about 250 lb, 'cause he goes to the gym every a.m. to lift weights.

My wife polished off her plate (same size as mine) and she only stands at 5'0" and 125 lbs. I'm 6'0" and weigh 215, but I have to keep my weight up so she doesn't start pushing me around.

Dave, I'm 5'10" & weight 165.
As for Carrie: she's 5' 2" & for a long time she only weighed 85. But then her nurses (at the Senior Life care facility) got concerned that if she were to get ill that her body wouldn't have the resources to fight that.
So they put her on a weight gain program by providing high-calorie, high-protein drinks & dessert cups for her. The former have 240 calories per 8 oz serving. The latter have 290 calories per 4 oz serving.
She has three drinks per day with her meals & one dessert cup per day as a snack. I also have found ways to increase her calories. Like using twice as much butter & syrup on her morning waffles.
In the past 6 months she's gained 13 lbs & is now at 98. The nurses' goal is for her to be at least at 100 & better yet 110.
