Think about everything you do across Chrome, Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, and everything else Google owns, and you get some idea of how much data you’re giving up to the company each day. For most of us, it’s... a lot.
You can use Google's online dashboard to delete everything Google has already collected, stop it from collecting anything in the future, or automatically delete your data after a set period (like three months). You can also use these features to clear the records if you’re planning to delete your Google account.

I use Google, Gmail and YouTube. I am totally satisfied with all 3 and am not particularly paranoid about the data they may have collected on me.
On another note: I've often wondered why 2 big search engines like Google and Duck Duck Go have such silly names.

I think the silly names are used in an effort to appeal to kids. Hook them while they are young and you got them for life.

Interesting theory, Carl, and if Google and Duck Duck Go never thought about it that way, they should have!!!

I tend to agree with you. Sandy. I'm not particularly concerned about my data being collected. So far I've never had a problem (going all the way back to the webtv days) and if I do - - -I do.

Dave, speaking of going all the way back to the WebTV days, I can no longer remember just what years those were. Plus, I don't recall how we hooked it up, although the name would indicate that we plugged it into our TV.
I still have a WebTV stashed away in a closet. Wish I could plug it in and play around with it.

Sandy, I think Google chose its name from the word 'googol'. Which is 10 raised to the power of 100. Which is a 1 followed by 100 zeros, in reference to how many answers you can find using Google. DuckDuckGo took it's name from a kid's game called Duck Duck Goose. You can read about that game here. What the connection is I dunno.

I plugged in "When did WebTV end and got a long drawn out story. Basically, if I read the article correctly, it started in the mid 90'sand was terminated on Sept.30, 2013.
most of those years, we used to spend Jan. through April in Florida. Same little apartment each year. The owner had an old B & W TV and he used to bring it to our apartment to use with the WebTV. We sat it on the end of the kitchen counter and when attached to our keyboard it served as a (not very sophisticated) laptop.
I really enjoyed it, probably for it's lack of sophistication.

Dave, you're right with those dates. Like Sandy I too still have a WebTV (later MSNTV-2) unit stored away. In fact I've got 3. Way back when a friend of mine left WebTV for a PC he shipped those to me. Should've tossed those years ago but 'cause they were a gift they hold sentimental value. Anyway, I do miss traveling down the road to WebTV.

Pete - I remember that start-up screen and the accompanying music. I, too, kinda miss it and the good old daze.

Sandy, is this what you recall? Reminds me of how s-l-o-w WebTV could be at times. Like when trying to connect to a website & the lil' spinning globe seemed like it'd never quit spinning.

Sandy, , the way I recall it was that it was $20 a month & could only be subscribed to with a credit card. Who that payment went to exactly I dunno.

We paid only $20 per month ?! Compare that to today's prices for high speed internet.
