Rural customers who use their smartphones frequently can cost their carrier as they use gigabytes of data on other company’s networks. This cost has apparently become too much for Verizon, which is once again cutting off a block of thousands of rural customers, giving them only a few weeks’ notice to take their business elsewhere. I don't have a smart phone, nor do I use Verizon, but cutting off a block of thousands of rural customers for legitimately using the services offered in their contracts is one way for a business to shoot themselves in the foot.
They may soon join the ranks of their despised cousins, AT&T. Plus, I expect that move will spawn a lot of law suits.

Sandy, gotta laugh at Verizon's decision in regard to customers here in PA. How foolish can they be? Most of PA's 67 counties are classified as rural areas. If you look at the map below the rural areas are shown in green. So, what? Verizon's going to cut-off nearly an entire state? Idiots for sure.

That's amazing Pete!! I wonder how many other states are mostly rural. West Virginia? Idaho? Montana? North and South Dakota?
It seems to me that millions, not just thousands of customers will be impacted by the Verizon cut-off of rural services. Plus, if those disenfranchised customers were my friends and relatives, I would drop my business with Verizon in a show of solidarity.

A ploy to cancel contracts, new rates. they know they have the best rural coverage so that other company’s networks does not fly. they are also the largest reseller to pay as you go providers, those contracts might be the unnamed issue.
Verizon is effectively firing a warning shot to its rural customers: Dare to use your service as we advertise it, and we may just cut you off.
the Billing addresses have NOT been a secret!

....and if ppl didn't need phone service ( no landlines?) they could flip Verizon the bird and say "Enjoy Yourself, you need us more than we need you!"
