You may recall that not long ago I increased the height of our bird-feeder 'cause a deer was visiting it each night to eat at & empty the feeder. Which stopped that raiding.
But, yesterday morning I went out to fill the feeder & there were seeds scattered all over the patio where I keep the storage container for the seeds. Evidence that a deer had been having a meal. How can that be when it's a galvanized steel can with a lid that fits tightly? Never happened before.
Here's how: the previous morning when I was getting seed out I forgot to put the lid back on. So the container was open for feeding all night long.

Well, something good came from this. It was soon time to buy more seed since it was getting low. And with the deer having its snack there was even less of it. So I went to Tractor Supply to get a 35 lb bag of seed for its usual $20. And was surprised to see that for their Christmas Sale, 3 days only, that the seed was two for the price of one. So I got 70 lbs, which will last quite awhile, & saved $20.

In the long run - - -looks like the deer unwittingly, did you a favor.

Dave, indeed it did. Which in general could be a life lesson: when things go wrong some good can come out of it.
BTW, I'm thinking that my 70 lbs of seed is going to last much longer than I'd thought.
With me having taken measures to prevent the deer & squirrels form getting a free meal, the seed in the feeder doesn't need replaced nearly as often. Used to be I had to refill the empty feeder every a.m. but now I only have to add half as much. Sometimes having to add none a'tall.
