Customers griping about clunky technology that spits out mysterious error codes, workers having to stand around and monitor both humans and machines, and retailers contending with theft.
Some retailers are adding restrictions, while others are pulling out completely.

In the last several weeks I have seen more lanes open at the Walmart here.
I have not seen the self driving floor scrubber in months, but it may be on an evening schedule.

Henry, gotta love self-checkouts myself. Always use those at Walmart & Lowes. I grab my stuff, go to checkout & in a few minutes I'm gone. No waiting in line for those making repetitive errors using their debit card or the little ol' lady writing a check in slow-motion.

More often than not I will use the belted one at Walmart if I have several items. Recently I have pulled into one an people were unloading as they scanned, as if they were in the pool self checkout area.

Never used a self checkout unless one of my grandkids is with me. Actually, at my age, I (or I should say my wife) order most stuff online.

Henry, I've used the belted ones at Walmart but only when the other type were marked for 'card use only'. I almost always use cash at any store.

Dave, I find those checkouts quite convenient. Mostly 'cause I lack the patience to wait in line.
