You may recall that a few months ago I helped my neighbor erect a canopy under which to park his Can-Am.
Looked out my window not long ago it had collapsed due to the high wind & snow weight. Called his wife & told her about it. Then I went out 'cause his Can-AM was exposed & had snow all over it. Brushed off the snow on the dash controls & such then pulled a corner of the canopy over to cover it again.
Called his wife again & told her what I'd done & recommended that he get his Can-Am in the garage. And she said he said he was just gonna leave it there. Which seems unwise to me. If more snow gets on the console & later melts it could cause electrical shorts.
Waiting to see if he's gonna go out so I can help him...

Nope, the neighbor never came out. Not even to look at the canopy. So I dunno what's up.

Saw the neighbor outside looking at his Can-Am & the canopy so I went out to help him out.
Was easy enough to get the canopy off his vehicle but then we noticed damage to it. One mirror with a turn signal was broken off & there's a scratch on the windshield. But he said for a $100 insurance deductible those would get fixed.
The canopy though is destroyed. Several metal support tubes are seriously bent. He said the whole thing will be scrapped. But there's nothing we can do with it now. It's covered in heavy snow & ice.
His Can-Am started right up & is now parked in his garage.

I'm surprised the deductible was that low.
Canopy would be under different coverage I suppose so higher deductible.

Henry, you're right, the deductible for the canopy, thru home insurance would be $1200. Too much for his liking, which is why he decided to just scrap it.
He's looking into reimbursement from the canopy maker though since it only lasted a few months.
On another note: he must've seen me out there this winter pushing snow off my Jeep with a broom 'cause he gave me an ice scraper/brush with an extendable handle for helping him.

They will say not properly anchored, assembled incorrectly.

Henry, I told him something similar, that the company would blame the weather & say that they're not responsible for that.
As for anchoring the canopy: if I would've used the pegs supplied with it to anchor the base of the support poles to the ground thru holes in their "feet" the canopy would've blown over long ago.
That's if I could've gotten them pounded into the ground. Those pegs were only 3" long & quite narrow in diameter. Most times I pounded on 'em they bent. So I went & got 8" galvanized nails, 1/4" inch thick, & used those. Which pounded in with no problem.
