Showed up as an update today & it's the first update ever that I'm hesitant to install. Why? 'Cause I'd have to sign-up for it which requires my e-mail address. I'm stingy with that & don't like supplying it unless absolutely needed. Which is why I rarely get spam.
Pro does sound desirable since it offers greater security measures & more frequent updates. And from what I've read here it sounds like stalled apt updates, like the trouble I related in another post, would be eliminated.
Actually I don't see a choice. I saw nowhere that I could opt-out of it.
The first line in the article I've included states: Ten years of security patches and support for Ubuntu LTS releases, and it's free for non-commercial use.

Well the price is good, even for Pete!
Is there a to button check for compatibility? Many times that would be an automatic process.
So have you seen anything about non pro updates stopping?
You have posted many ways around the email addy?
Ubuntu does not have an email for you?
Does Pro Boards offer you an email? Go to mail.com can pick from many names after the @.

Henry, yeah, free is a good price for an ol' miser like me. In the articles I've read compatibly is pre-determined by the version of Ubuntu ones uses. "Plain" versions won't get it it's only offered to Ubuntu LTS (Long-Term Support) users like me. No more e-mail concerns: at the download site this a.m. I noted what I hadn't before. That is: one can chose to open an account or not. The wording is, Open an account OR enter the code. Said numerical code is shown for copying & pasting into a text slot. So, later today when I've got more time I'll begin the upgrade. Which looks like, from the long list of packages to be installed, will take quite a bit of time. To answer your question: not accepting the upgrade won't affect ones original Ubuntu version in regard to upgrades.

Good luck. Oh so hardware is not a factor. Good.

Henry, just spent 30 mins trying to install the update & it turns out I do need to open an account.
I went to the site noted in the update to enter the required alphanumeric code. Which was right there, like A765TY, & typed it into the text slot & clicked-on Confirm. Which resulted in a Invalid Token pop-up.
After some searching online, several Ubuntu articles stated that, yes, to obtain a valid code one must first register an account.
Anyway, I'm done fooling around with it for now...
No, hardware isn't a factor.

This a.m. another separate update showed up which I installed. Then the Pro update reappeared.
My concern with that Pro update sitting there before was that it would interfere with other updates but it didn't.
I've of a mind right now to just ignore that Pro update & let it sit there forever 'cause either it's too complicated to install or I'm not understanding how to do it correctly.
