Which is where I'll be going this a.m. There used to be a Books-A-Million there but that closed a few years ago. Recently a new one opened in its place, Sams Lotson.
B-A-M had only books at full retail price. Retail for the paperbacks that I prefer go anywhere from $8 to $12. This new store sells used books. Which are alot cheaper. Books are priced in two categories. Hardbacks are $4 and paperbacks and children’s books are $2. In addition, records and CDs are $2 and DVDs are $4.
What makes the new store unique is that the store is self-service. Customers can purchase books through scanning items and paying with a card, or by putting money into a cash box.
So it does sound interesting.

Well, I was a lil' disappointed with that bookstore. Most of the books were hardcovers. Which I don't care for. Did find 3 paperbacks by authors I like though.

I rarely buy a book. Been using libraries since I was a Kid. We have a regional library system in the SE portion of the State. Take out a book from any library and return it to any other library in the system if it's more convenient.
I used to enjoy paperbacks but with only one eye (and the "good" one is now 90 yrs. old) the paperbacks usually have too smaller print for comfortable reading.

Dave, when I was a kid the library came to us. The library in the city had a Book-Mobile. A big, trailer-like vehicle full of books that came & parked in our neighborhood every 2 weeks. For an avid reader like me that sure was cool. As for the library in this area & paperbacks: years ago I'd get mine there but the selection was small & it didn't take me long to go thru the author's book I liked. Nowadays when I'm done with the ones I've bought I donate those to the library. 10 books in a bag at a time. Heck, I couldn't read my paperbacks without my reading glasses.

Book-mobiles are fancy riggs now. One goes by on the nearby feeder street often.

We've had the Book-mobiles for a number of years as well. Used to pass by our house on a regular basis but I never made use of it.
The library that I've used for the last few years is in the town next to ours. It's closer than the nearest branch of our city library. Before retiring (32 years ago) My job took me to various towns and sometimes I'd hit their local library at lunch time and pick up a couple of books (which could be returned at one of our local libraries.

Our county Library has formed a search committee, with Authority to Negotiate a land purchase, all conditional of course. Bass ackwards as government things are.
County need more office space. Library is in the building, had not found a location. County bought an historic church, conveniently so the church could by land from an important person. And build.
