Not sure it'd actually qualify as identity theft but one time years ago I got a call from one of my credit card companies asking if I'd recently made a purchase in France.

I replied, "No, I've never even been out of the country!"

After hearing that my card was cancelled & a new one was issued. And I still wonder how someone in another country got a hold of my card number.
