In a stunning display of talent and determination, eight-year-old Ashwath Kaushik from Singapore has etched his name in chess history by becoming the youngest player ever to defeat a grandmaster in classical chess.
The remarkable feat occurred at the 22nd Burgdorfer Stadthaus Open in Switzerland last weekend, where Ashwath triumphed over the seasoned 37-year-old Grandmaster Jacek Stopa from Poland.

Zero interest. My son (now in his 60's) enjoyed chess when in his early teens. Only as a passtime but even with him taking up the game, I never joined him.

Dave, I learned to play chess decades ago & found it quite interesting & fun. A real challenge where every game is different than the last one.
I've got a chess set where the cedar board is actually a carrying case for the pieces, that folds open for playing. Made of wood with each square an inlay of light & dark woods. The pieces are hand carved soapstone. Tallest pieces are about 2" high.

Dave, yeah, it is really nice. When I first met Carrie & I was helping her mom with something in her closet I saw the set. Asked if I could look at it. When I did I said, "Wow! This is really nice." So her mom gave it to me. It had been her late son's, who got it when he served in Korea when he was in the Army. Below is one similar to mine. My board is 16" square. Flip the board over & there are velvet-lined slots for each piece. Then of course you fold it closed.
