From streaming sticks to smart TVs, there's no shortage of ways to stream movies and TV shows from services like Netflix, Hulu, and Disney Plus. Amazon's Fire TV Stick is a great option.
But we've rounded up the best Fire Stick alternatives so that you can weigh your options.

Most of the alternatives listed are more expensive and clunkier than the Fire stick. I prefer it to all the alternatives listed in that article.

Hi Carl here's hoping you're well.
Well said. I had several Android devices, just Android and Roku, but went with a smart tv Google tv instead.
I tried a fire stick for less than a day. I have been pleased with Sling.

Carl, likewise, I hope you're doing well.
On another note: I always pay attention to your streaming comments. 'Cause you've tried so many of those I consider you our resident streaming expert.

The thing about the Fire stick...
No subscription required. Even after I dropped my Amazon Prime subscription I was able to acess all my premium apps and all my movies. And once Bezos' boys assured me that I could opt for an ad free version of Prime Videos and my movie library would always remain ad free, I resubscribed.
Lastly, the Fire stick is the least intrusive device I've ever owned. The ads are only active if you dare to click on em.
My health is good, thanks for asking...

Carl, dunno how frequent ads are on any streaming service 'cause I don't use any. But on cable TV those're out of control. Meaning literally half the content seen is ads. When cable first came out when I was kid (yeah, that long ago) its selling point was that there were no commercials. Then they began appearing only at the beginning & ending of a show. Then every 15 mins. Then every 10. Nowadays it's ever 5. 5 minutes of a show & then 5 mins of commercials. Repeatedly.

Sort of...
Instead of purchasing the full Amazon annual subscription which includes free shipping and other benefits, Amazon now offers an ad free Prime video only plan. I chose this monthly plan. But because I raised so much Cain over the introduction of ads, I received an invitation for a 30 day free full Prime subscription.
Amazon Prime Video is indeed a stand alone service...

Oh see you probably don't qualify for Prime Access $6.99 month. Full Prime. Snap ssi , not SS alone medicaid energy assistance.
Then Walmart offer a similar plan.

But Walmart+ only offers the ad supported version of the various free apps covered in their benefits plan. I had to cancel each free subscription in order to upgrade to the ad free version.
All my premium apps are ad free, even youtube...

I can handle the cable commercials with my DVR service. But I will not tolerate ads in my paid apps...
