Went to Walmart this a.m. whilst it was still dark. So of course I was alert for deer crossing the road. Which is when that happens most often.
Mostly when those are seen they're either just one deer crossing or sometimes 2. So seeing 6 was unusual. There were 4 does & 2 fawns. Of course the fawns are smaller & they've got spots in their fur.
Also what was different was that usually deer run or jump across the road. But these just walked casually across the road. I'd seen them nearing the road so was able to stop in time to just sit & watch. Pretty cool, I think.

That's a neat way to start off your day.

Dave, yeah, it was.
What's not been so neat was the time a deer jumped out & I came very close to hitting it. Within 10 ft of it before I was fully stopped.
Dead deer laying along the road shows other drivers weren't so lucky.

I have determined it would happen less if two things were done.
Turn signs 1/4, and put on far side of ditch.

Henry, good idea. Instead of drivers seeing where deer may cross, turned signs would direct the deer to where they can do so. In addition the State Game Commission could deploy crossing guards.
