Car insurance costs are rising much faster than inflation. A 22% year-over-year increase in auto insurance costs is pushing more car owners to shop around for cheaper policies — or sometimes to take even more drastic measures.

In my experience auto insurance companies raise rates frequently. When that happened with me, years ago I'd go thru the hassle of shopping around for a better rate with another company. Which was very time consuming & took alot of effort. And I was never sure if I'd found the best deal.
Then I discovered an auto insurance broker's office near here & went to them. An agent there did all the work & searching for me.
Since then all I need to do is call the agency & a few days later I get a call to come in, review my new policy & sign some papers. Last year my agent saved me about $120 with a new policy with the same amount of coverage that I'd had before.
I highly recommend that you contact an auto insurance broker yourself.

I've used the same local insurance agency since I registered my first car, back in 1951. it was my dad's agent before that. A guy he went through school with. That guys son and now his grandson continue to run the business.
They also insure my home since I received it in the late 60's. I've had a good "track record" with them, over the years and have always been treated well with the rates and my (few) claims

Dave, personally I've never had to file a claim with an auto insurance company. I've only, in my 54 years of driving, ever had two accidents.
The 1st was when I was 19 & way back then auto insurance wasn't required by law in PA so I had none.
The 2nd one back in the mid 90s I did have insurance but me & the other party involved agreed not to file claims & to just each get our vehicles fixed on our own since only minor damage was involved.
Oh wait, I just recalled another minor one involving me backing up my truck into a car I didn't see behind me about 20 years ago. When I got out to talk to the other driver he looked at the small dent in his car & said, "There's so many other dents in it no one will notice a new one, so don't worry about it."
