Thunderbird is noted in that article. Years ago I switched my most often used Outlook account to TB.
Dunno about with you but Outlook is slow, having to log-in then waiting for new messages to load.
With TB it's alot quicker, less than a minute to access my Outlook account thru that 'cause TB knows my log-in info already. And I don't even have to have my browser open to do so. I just click-on the TB icon on my onscreen sidebar menu & I'm on my way to my messages.

My iMac doesn't have "Windows," so don't know if Thunderbird is available to me. However, from day 1, I've been using G-Mail and couldn't be more pleased with my choice,

Sandy, I'd guess your iMac could get it.
My laptop doesn't use Windows either. Instead its OS is Ubuntu.
