About 2 weeks ago I planted 4 tomato seeds, each in its own plastic cup. Then sat those on an indoor, sunny windowsill & have been regularly watering them. This a.m. when I looked at them I saw the 1st lil' sprout.
I always plant more than I need in case one or two seeds don't sprout or if they do but a plant dies. This year I planted Bushsteak tomatoes. A variety of Beefsteak that, as the name implies, only grows 2 to 3 feet tall. Just right for growing in my 8 gallon, 24" high planters on the patio. The tomatoes themselves will grow to be up to one pound in weight.
I only grow 2 plants which will produce plenty of tomatoes for me. Carrie doesn't care for those. I do give away some though but only green ones to my neighbors 'cause they like those fried.
So, the growing season has begun. But I won't transplant those outdoors till after Memorial Day. Which is the rule of thumb for planting here in PA, to avoid frost.

One pound tomatoes? That's huge!! I love tomatoes, of all sizes - even the little cherry tomatoes.

Sandy, yeah, those will be big tomatoes. Large enough that a slice of one in a sandwich will be big enough to cover a piece of bread. My kinda tomato. Just checked on my first sprout. This a.m. it was just starting to peek out of the soil. Now it's about 1/2" tall with 2 tiny leaves.
