Was just snooping around in my Ubuntu Software files & noted that the Updates button indicated a 2. Upon clicking-on that I saw, of course, 2 updates awaiting me. What's odd though is when I click-on the Software Updater icon, over there on the left-side of my screen & then check for updates thru that I'm told: The software on this computer is up to date. Up to date but two updates waiting? Most peculiar.

UB, not sure what you mean by 'manual commands'. If you mean sudo commands executed within the terminal: yeah, I've done that at times. In fact, I recently solved a problem with an update not taking place properly with those commands.
If you mean do I manually install updates: yeah, that's my usual method. I could set Ubuntu to do automatic updates behind the scenes but I prefer doing those myself 'cause as they're installing I can click-on a 'details' button to see what's going on in the terminal. A line-by-line progression that shows what exactly is being downloaded & installed.

Well, puzzle solved...kinda. I still don't get why updates would show in my Ubuntu Software Center & not in my Software Updater. Previously when I'd discovered updates in the USC that weren't in the SU I installed them.
But I'm going to ignore those USC updates from now on 'cause I was in there this a.m., installing a screen-shot tool, & noted 2 updates indicated in USC. Which are the same 2 updates I got & installed thru the SU last evening & this morning. In other words, the updates in the USC are ones I've already taken via the US.
Apparently there's no synchronization between the USC & the SU. They're not "talking" to each other, I guess?

UB, something explained doesn't necessarily mean something understood.

UB, yeah, obviously they're not "talking" to each other.
Another oddity: the day after I got & installed the Firefox 56.0 update it showed up in my Software Updater again. Thinking it may be a lil' different than 56.0, like 56.0.1, I downloaded it again. And then when I looked at About Firefox it was the same version & number. I've seen that happen before so I'm not concerned about it, just curious as to why it happens.
A clue may be this: after the 1st instalment the FF update was still in my Ubuntu Software Center & then after the 2nd installment it wasn't.
I'd think that when I clicked-on the 2nd one that the installer would "read" my laptop's software & detect that the update had already been downloaded but apparently not.
