Tom Petty on life support after cardiac arrest:

Tom Petty was rushed to the hospital in Santa Monica, California, Sunday night after he was found unconscious and not breathing, TMZ reported Monday.

The 66-year-old singer had suffered a cardiac arrest in his Malibu home before emergency personnel arrived and took him to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital, law enforcement sources told TMZ.

Sources told the website that Mr. Petty was put on life support and his condition was critical.

“We’ve been in touch with numerous people from Petty’s camp and they are clearly upset but not talking,” TMZ reported.
Mr. Petty played at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento Sunday night, according to reports.

Oh, wow, didn't expect that. I just watched a documentary on Netflix about his music career, which I believe he was in the process of wrapping up and getting ready to retire from. He had a really bad childhood (his father continually beat the hell out of him), and that played a role in his drive for success.

My favorite song of his was "American Girl," which was a big hit in my youth:

After all of the news feeds stated he was taken off from life support and passed away, now all of them are stating he's still on life support.

UPDATE: Citing a source, Variety reported at 1:30 p.m. PT that Petty had died. However, the LAPD has clarified that a statement ‘inadvertently provided’ incorrect information to media sources. Variety will continue to monitor the situation and provide the most accurate information possible amid conflicting reports. TMZ reported that Petty is “clinging to life support.”

So sad. Stevie Nicks must be devastated. She once said that if she didn't have Fleetwood Mac, she would have wanted to be a member of Tom's band. Tom replied that there are no chicks in the Heartbreakers. LOL But he made her an honorary member and they collaborated on a number of songs, such as this one:
