Going to look around in my admin options & see if I can change the language of this group from British English to American English.
Why? 'Cause quite often the spell-checker for this group tags words in my post as misspelled when they aren't. Which bugs me for some reason. Examples follow, with the "correct" spelling in parentheses:
center (centre) recognize (recognise) color (colour) behavior (behaviour)
And so on. I find it annoying & for those who may not know the correct, American English spelling of a word it could be quite confusing to them, or at least misleading.
So, I'll see what I can do about it, if anything...

Well, from what I've learned it is possible to change the language in this group, but it would either require me to access & modify the innards (the source code) of this group & modify the coding. Or, I could install the Google Translator plug-in & go from there.
The former I'm simply not going to attempt since it's been too many years since I've done any coding & even longer since I sat in a programming class. My rustiness could lead to a formating disaster.
As for Google, I'm sure most of you know that I don't like anything to do with Google. So, that's out.

I, for one, am accustomed to the different British spelling of some words, and it doesn't bother me. However, I noticed that if I type the British spellings of behaviour, recognise, and colour, spellchecker tags them as misspelled, suggesting the English version of those words. They seem to accept both centre and center as valid spellings.
So, do you think that spellcheck, itself, varies with different browsers?

Pete are you sure that this forum has spellcheck or is it your browser. I'm using firefox like you are and it's firefox's spell check that checks my spelling. I never get the British spelling option. Click onto the 3 line icon in upper right side of firefox, then click onto options and under General you'll see this- Under the Choose button you'll see the US English option.

By Jove, I'd thought you ladies were onto something, but looking clicking-on Preferences (not Options) according to Nancy's instructions showed: English/United States [en-us] highlighted but I clicked-on OK anyway.
Don't think that'll change anything but I'll try it here: color. Nope, it shows as misspelled. But! Here's the solution. Purposely use a word spelled differently in Britain. Once it's underlined in red, right-click your mouse. Then scroll-down thru the menu & mouse-over Languages. There you'll see several dialects of English to choose from. Mine is shown as English (United Kingdom). With English (United States) that of course I'm now going to choose.
Now, after doing so, the word 'color' above is no longer marked as misspelled. To test it if your browser's already using U.S. English type 'colour'. And you'll see it marked as incorrect.
Thanks ladies, your tips solved the trouble.
