Yes, I thought about Fishin' Gary when we began discussing Irma. He was so supportive when I was going through Hurricane Harvey angst, I wish that I had had the opportunity to offer similar support to him.
It appears that David may be out of harms way, but I am very concerned about Diane who lives in SE Florida. She has said that she lives in a corner apartment, that may be downstairs, plans to "shelter in place," and is very frightened.
Diane, if you are reading here, please let us know your current status. Has your area been told to evacuate? Is there a nearby shelter where you won't be so isolated? Also, has your area been told to evacuate?

you folks in the know does Western Europe use the word Hurricane? Jet stream effects hurricanes? I believe that hurricanes are called cyclones in Europe. It is believed that jets streams make it easier for hurricanes to form, and that they spur more powerful hurricanes.

Yes, Gary lives in the danger zone. I hope he gets out ok. From the looks of it the roads are full of people going North.

Yeah, the cars on the highways look bumper to bumper with people evacuating. They ought to open up most of the south bound lanes, too, to accommodate more cars.
David, are you sure you are not in the 'danger zone?' All the reporting I am seeing is that all of Florida, coast to coast, is in a the danger zone. Have you done anything to prepare? Aren't you on, or close to, the beach and if so, might there be a storm surge of water that reaches your condo?
I also heard that 4 million people, nearly half of the state, will be without power, perhaps for weeks. I'm worried about you. Please keep posting over the next 2 or 3 days, so that we'll know you are okay.

I listened to his Gov. A bit ago, sounded like fhp thought they could wait. Semi's still heading south. Panhandle inclear so far sounds like. Southern third will not be unscathed.
Just saw the Iss shot, close to Cuba. And Jose is a 4! Also!

Henry: "It appears Cathy and David have both had "Work" done!"
Pete: "Yeah, I've noticed their makeovers--both look much younger than before."
Makeover you say? Heck, Cathy had a sex change!

Aren't you on, or close to, the beach and if so, might there be a storm surge of water that reaches your condo? As long as I am not in the cone I am ok. The weathermen make it sound like it's the end of the world for Florida. I do not live in the peninsula of Florida. I live in the Panhandle. I live way West closer to Mobile, Alabama. I start getting worried when they say it will hit Pensacola and Mobile. I even live in the Central Time Zone, not the Eastern Time.
I am prepared if it does shift more to my area. Right now the people who are evacuating are coming here all across the Panhandle. When they run from here I will run with them. They have not told us to evacuate.
See where it says Destin? That is where I live.

PHEW!! Thanks for the map David. I always pictured Destin on the west side of the Florida peninsula, like near Tampa, but it is actually on a line perpendicular to the peninsula.
You are far away from all the action and now I can see why the cold front in the Gulf protects Destin, along with Houston. I can also see why your climate would be very similar to mine. It is a near straight line from Destin to Houston.

What's this about me having a sex change operation? LOL
What I'm seeing right now on my local news station here in Boston is that Irma will cover the entire state of Florida, including all of David's panhandle section, sorry to say.

Cathy it looks right now that they're stating the storm surge should mainly be along the lower 1/3 of Fla and winds should be closer to 75mph by the time it reaches Destin but then that could change by sunday.

By the time it gets to me it will be a Cat 1 or a tropical storm. We need a good tropical storm here. They always feel good
We are not in the cone and that's all that matters.
