This is meant to be a humorous thread on your personal experiences as you've grown older that you can make light of or find amusing. I've noticed several things about myself that age has had an effect on that I can poke fun at & thought you may be able to do the same. I got the idea for this thread when not too long ago I realized that product makers seem to have begun to screw on lids to containers extra tight. I notice that when I attempt to say screw-off the cap to a jug of juice that apparently was put on with an air-wrench, like one that you would use to tighten lug-nuts on a wheel. No amount of torque that I can exert with my hand will break the seal, let alone spin the cap off. So I've had to resort to aids such as wrapping a gum-band around the cap for added grip or in one case a pair of pliers. With large, flat lids, like on a tomato sauce jar, I've had to resort to prying the lid's rim way from the jar some with the point of a handheld can-opener to allow air in so I can then twist the lid off. There must be tremendous air-pressure per square inch upon that lid. So, not only are product makers out to make removing lids much harder but nature as well. I ought to invest a one of those oil-filter wrenches so I can get those dayum lids off.

Heck Pete, I think opening jars of almost anything nowadays is daunting, no matter what your age. I've been tempted to throw them against the wall!!! After wrestling with a jar of pickles yesterday, I tried something new. I turned on the hot water in the sink, held and rotated the jar lid under the faucet for maybe a minute, then, holding the jar in a dish towel, easily turned the lid. I don't know where I got the idea, but all I can tell you is that it works!!!
Another huge PITA is opening OTC items like vitamins and supplements, of which I buy a lot. Typically, part of, or the entire bottle, is covered in plastic, which may not be easy to remove. Next, having twisted off the lid, there is a piece of cardboard sealing the entry to the bottle's contents. It often has hard to budge tiny cardboard fasteners on 3 or 4 sides. I usually lose patience and plunge a paring knife into the cardboard to tear if off, leaving paper residue along the edges of the opening. (I've given up on tidying that mess.)
At this point, you may think your job is done, but nooooo - you must now somehow get a hold on a huge wad of cotton, often submerged in the bottle, and pull it out, hopefully in one piece, before earning the right to access the contents. If I want to maintain my alleged sanity, I try not to open more than one of those bottles per day -per week, would be even better.

I saw something on TV where you put this opener on a jar or whatever and push a button to start it and it will help open a jar for you.youtu.be/K0LhXM_gv48

Here's something I find amusing about my age.
Used to be that I'd open doors for others, like older folks & women. Now the tables have turned. Young folks, including women, now hold the door open for me. I always imagine they're thinking: geez, lookit this frail, old guy. Probably doesn't have the strength to open a door.
Funny stuff.

They open the door for me because I am using a 3 wheel walker with oxygen. I can imagine what they are thinking.

DC, pretty cool but it's not opening cans I've trouble with but twisting off bottle & jar lids. I gave up on electric can-openers long ago. Must've been through 5 or 6, each one eventually broke. So I do it the old-fashioned way now with a hand-held opener. The one I've got has lasted for years & if it breaks I can cheaply replace it for $1 at Dollar Tree.

Three phases I've gone thru in my life. 1st: no cashier at any business, say a restaurant, ever asked me if I wanted the senior discount. 2nd: Some cashiers began asking me if I wanted the senior discount but did it with a doubtful tone of voice 'cause they weren't sure I'd qualify. 3rd: More often than not they don't ask now but when I look at my receipt I see I've been given the discount. So, I've gone from looking too young to looking definitely over-the-hill...& going down the other side.

If you watch the video it is for opening jars and bottle caps also. It sort of an all in one tool for people with arthritis in their hands.

David & DC, I did watch part of the video but not all of it. I quit when it appeared to only be for cans. I'll watch the rest of it.
Now, are you two going to share a humorous, personal thought on growing older? Or will I be disappointed?

Sometimes I am in the parking lot leaning on my car and breathing real heavy, trying to catch my breath. A couple will stop and ask can they pray for me. I say go ahead it can't hurt. I must be getting old.

David, well, at least you can find your car. Not uncommon for me to come out of a store & not be able to spot it 'cause I forgot where I parked it.
