You may be unaware that you can post in this group even though you're not a member. I've hosted a number of newsgroups & this is the first one I've ever had, or seen elsewhere, where guests are permitted to post. So I was thinking that you guests may not be aware that you can post here, since not being able to seems to be the norm. Your being able to post is a privilege I chose to allow, I do have the opposite option of disallowing that. But I imagined that some of you may only want to add to our group once in awhile without having to sign-up and/or may wish to remain anonymous when posting. As long as you behave as guests in that you communicate with us in a civil & respectful manner, you're welcome to join in our conversations. Pete Site Admin/Moderator  |

Byron, "HeBot" was me posting from our laptop at work. Just me playing around on my break to see how Cathy would react. And to be honest, I didn't know that was you. My first impression was in fact that a known member was trying to fool us by posting as a guest. For some reason I suspected it was David. But when I tracked the IP number location to Georgia I'd thought: well, it's not him so it must really be a guest. I'd simply forgotten where you live. So, I didn't get you, you got me. |

My guess was that HeBot was a longtime Xtreme member, who left in a huff, and now misses us. However, with Pete's ability to track the location of IP addresses, he would likely think twice before posting as a guest.

I saw one thing when I was posting as a guest that may deter true guests from posting. Before I could submit my post I had to go thru one of those captcha puzzles. I myself find those annoying. When I first founded this group I was looking for tips in our host's support forum but every time I wanted to enter it I had to jump thru a captcha hoop. So I quit visiting it.
Also, guests posting here have to click-on a 'Agree To Terms of Service' box before they can proceed.

LOL Nancy, I knew who that "guest poster" was, just hesitated to out him. Who else would so persistently post AT&T services and not even read our repeated responses that we didn't own/use digital phones? A bigger giveaway would have been if he posted IN ALL CAPS.

The stated discrepency may lie in the thread reference link that Nancy posted, which displays only a single post from the thread. The thread in question can be seen here as a whole: Thread HereNow, if you look at Nancy's link you'll see above the post the title of the thread & if you look at the title above the entire thread, you'll see that they're matching. Also matching is the IP number for JustGuest & ThisIsJazzAzz. Obviously the dual-poster overlooked the matching titles. |
