For the past two days it all works except for replying to a message. Whenever I hit Send it doesn't. Instead I get an error pop-up that states:

it could be that your server settings became corrupt in thunderbird or maybe hotmail changed their server port ? Open thunderbird, right click onto your email address and choose Settings from that menu. Then click onto Server Settings and check to see if your smtp server is smtp.live.com and that the smtp port is 25. If those are the settings you're using then try deleting them, retyping them and hitting the Save button. After close thunderbird and reopen thunderbird and see if that works. If that doesn't work then check under the ?'s in this search results to see if you come up with different smtp settings- www.google.com/search?q=smtp+server+for+hotmail&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Nancy, followed the steps you've given & found that the port number isn't 25. Nope, it's actually 587. Will try your suggested fix for that later. Soon going to work on my day off to fill-in for one of my crew who asked for the day off. Thanks.

Well, I've been fooling around in T-bird trying to fix the glitch & nothing I've tried has worked. The problem is intermittent. In other words, most of the time I can't send mail but sometimes I can. I suspect the the problem is on Outlook's end. Outlook mail is what I've got T-bird calling up. Outlook has become very slow & problematic over the past months. I've told myself several times that I really need to find a mail service that works. So, I'm signed-up with Mail.com & will be trying that out. Once I get the hang of that I'm going to ditch Outlook, delete it from T-bird & use Mail thru T-bird instead.

I don't use Thunderbird, but have experienced major problems with Outlook. Email sent to me never arrived. While writing a response, everything I've written has vanished after merely clicking onto spellcheck, and other assorted horrors.
Outlook is now one of 3 email accounts I use and has become my least favorite. I keep it mostly for storage, Amazon notices of orders/shipping and corresponding with one friend who has the annoying habit of stuffing my mailbox by forwarding a lot of stuff she thinks I would want to read.

Sandy, I think my Outlook accounts are eventually going to be for store only. Too many glitches, slow-loading & it keeps prompting me to try the beta version and/or subscribe to the pay-for version.
