My cursor has been making me crazy recently. Well, OK, more so than I already am.
It changes its mode on its own or it stays the way it was when it shouldn't
It has 3 forms:
The arrow shape for clicking-on buttons.
The vertical line used for highlighting text or marking a point at which to insert text.
And the lil' swirly thing you see when you click & drag.
The cursor will suddenly change from the arrow to the swirly on its own. Or if I highlight text it stays in the vertical line shape after I paste the text when it should revert to an arrow.
No matter which form it's in I can still click-on links but it's just annoying.
The light on the bottom of my mouse is green, not red like it would be with low batteries, & my laptop shows the mouse batteries at 71%. So that's not the trouble.
Have any idea as to what's going on?

Pete, it seems to me that the mouse, not the cursor, is wacky. The first thing I would do is change the mouse battery or batteries, even if it does show 71% charged. Maybe the mouse got wet and/or water seeped into the battery enclosure. Years ago, I spilled a glass of water on my WebTV keyboard and even after it dried out, the cursor sprinted up and down the page.

Pete I have a usb mouse that started going wacky on me last week so I change it out for a mouse that went wacky on me a year ago. The old wacky mouse is now working perfectly for me.
I think after a time that static electricity and dirt builds up on them and they quit working. I do remember before storing away last years wacky mouse that I did clean it with alcohol and a q-tip.

Thanks for the tips. I've changed the batteries & so far no wackiness. And yeah, my mouse is cordless & talks to my laptop via a USB plug-in thing. I forget what they're called.
I think my mouse is OK now 'cause it's now showing the one finger pointing hand as the cursor that I'd forgotten about 'cause it's been MIA for awhile.

it's a mini receiver, the were on cord at on time, some say dongle. so you choose to be given the finger?
have you download its software? I can get bat info from my keyboard.

Henry, yeah, I installed its software when I first got it years ago 'cause doing so added features. Like pushing the wheel to the left & right to scroll sideways. Well, wouldn't be the first time I've gotten the finger.
