Could the differences in what we see have something to do with the different browsers we use? space bar 2x test pushed quote no tags. and its in the quote.

Maybe these 2 screenshots will help explain the 2 quote options here and how they work. Please read what I typed in black and in red on both screens shots. Click onto each attachments in order to enlarge them.

Pete, I'll try preview again, following your instructions. Also, I believe Henry noted that we can type changes within the preview box, which was not possible in 4.0.
Also, I hate it that when we type a reply, rather than have the ability to see and answer the last post, normally located directly below the box we are using to respond, we see the very first post in the thread and have to scroll waaay down to the one to which we are replying. And, pray tell, how does this work if you are on the 3rd page of a thread? Do you have to scroll back 3 pages to see the last post?
Pete, I know you're not a big fan of the quote button, but this forum format doesn't give us much choice other than to rely upon it frequently.

Nancy, it's getting more confusing. I've never had to hit the BBCode button to have the quote tags appear. They're just there when I click-n Quote.

Pete that's probably because I'm using firefox or else one of my firefox addons is causing the code not to show up until I click the BBCode button. It really doesn't matter because clicking Quote and typing directly below the quote that's in a white box that's outlined with grey is extremely simple to do--no brainer.

Sandy, if you want to see the last post in a thread use Quick Reply rather than Reply. The last post will be directly above your text box.
Personally I see little reason to use Quote. Say I'm replying to the third post in a thread of 8. Well, I recall very well what I'd just read & I presume that the person I'm replying to recalls what they've posted. And I'll word my post to them with a reminder of what they've posted so they know for sure.
For example: Nancy's post is 4 up from this one. If I were replying to that I'd mention her two screen-shots. I've always likened it to receiving a letter in the mail. When I write back I don't include the letter I got. The recipient knows what I'm replying to by my relative words.

Wyz, Preview does work. You've missed what I said elsewhere in this thread. That is:
As for the Preview button: I tried it & at first I saw nothing happen. So I tried it again. This time I saw what happens & it happens quickly. Click-on your Preview button & closely watch the center of the text box, the empty white area, & you'll see a few small black squares flashing.
Those indicate that the page your typing on has been reloaded & what you're then seeing is the preview of your post.
You can verify you're in Preview mode by clicking-on Preview again. Nothing will happen 'cause you're already there.

Nancy & Henry,
As I've said, when I hit the Quote button what I see, & only see, is the text of a post enclosed in the quote tags. There is no white area outlined in a gray line.
On one hand I think Sandy's right--that what we see depends on our browser, but on the other hand Nancy & I are both using Firefox yet we see Quote differently.
I just don't see how we can help one another with this Quote issue unless we can discover why we see things differently.

I start typing between the font tags. I put them there myself.
You should start typing after the /quote

What does the area that I circled mean, Pete? I deleted the quoted comment which is why you won't see it ( I know how much you despise such things. ;-) ) I tried to Preview what I wrote to see how well it worked out and got that msg.
