This information is available at the bottom of the Home page and I believe Users Online Now was also available to view in the last Xtreme forum. I also believe that each of us has the option to hide that information, but would hope that nobody does that. I have noticed recently that Pete's name is now hidden, so we don't know whether he is, or has been recently available to participate in a thread. For several reasons, this transparency has alway been important to me, so I would like to sincerely request that you, Pete, once again make this info available. Your consideration in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Sandy you'll notice that I'm also invisible and I plan on staying that way.
I normally read through some of the threads in this group in the morning but I seldom have time to reply at that time. Because of that I don't want somebody to see that I'm online but not answering a ? directed to me. I don't want people to perceive me as being rude when the fact is that I didn't have time before heading out to work to answer the ?.
I also had the experience back when I was on webtv where I was the one expected by the owner of one of the discussion groups to answer all of the tech answers anybody had. Quite often when I got home from work I just wanted to relax and read through posts in a few of the different groups instead of answering ?'s. But if I made the mistake of replying to somebody's post in another group I would get an email in a short time from the owner of the group who expected me to be her answer person, chastening me for not going directly to her group to answer ?'s. I would also get emails from other people who saw me online and wanted me to help them with something. I got so tired of it that I finally quit posting in all of the groups. People didn't give any thought to the fact that my online life was my life and didn't center around what they wanted at the moment they wanted it.
It could be that Pete gets unsolicited emails the moment somebody sees him online--he might like to have time to relax before answering posts.
We all have the right to animosity online if we want it. That's the reason for having the ability to be invisible in here.

Sandy, the two displays you mentioned are beyond my control except for my personal setting, if you were thinking I have anything to do with what those show.
Each member here has the option, in their personal profile, to choose to be 'invisible'. Unseen by other members whilst online, except by me. On my end I see anyone online when they are. Rather than just a name I see this, for example: Joe (invisible).
I had noted that Nancy visits here undercover & decided to try it myself & I liked it. Much like Nancy my time in this group is limited, especially in the time before I leave for work. Remember, my time here isn't like the average member who peruses the group casually. Besides adding new topics & replying to those already posted my responsibility is to observe everything going on here & to take measures against unacceptable posters or content, when necessary.
Like Nancy I prefer to do that without distraction so that I can remained focused. Much like her I've had members mildly chastise me for not answering their personal messages & posts at the time they saw me online. Or when they thought I was online. I sometimes leave this group on my screen while I go away & do other things so that it appears I'm in here when I'm not. I've had members send me one personal message after another practically demanding to know why I hadn't answered their first message, when I wasn't even in here.
Shortly after the last incident like that is when I decided to go invisible. Any posts or messages directed to me will be seen & replied to by me by day's end. I really don't see any scenario where those would require my immediate response, so I shall remain invisible.
