Phil & I started out as antagonists, often trading barbs. But I never took those personally nor was I insulted by those. 'Cause I sensed behind his gruff persona was a likeable guy. And I was right. Over the years we became friends. And often helped one another with problems with or format changes to our forums. Though I never wanted to see him pass on I'm at peace knowing his suffering has ended. You'll be missed Phil, my friend.

I, too, had a contentious relationship with Phil, so I'm glad we made peace before his health took a dive. For the past several years, Phil lived alone in the house in which he grew up, where he was confined to a wheelchair and visited weekly by a VA helper who did his shopping and light housework. He seemed to lead a reasonably happy life, visited by friends, communicating daily with others via his own forum and here at Pete's, and surrounded at home with up-to-date electronics, plus his newest toy - a Keurig coffee maker.
I feel certain he would have spent several more happy years enjoying the life he had crafted in the house he loved, had he been strong enough for the open heart surgery he needed, but it was not to be. I know how much Phil truly hated being confined to a hospital bed these past few months. So, I'd like to believe that today, he is in a far better place.
RIP Phil

RIP Phil. I didn't know him as well as most of you folks but I enjoyed his posts and good nature. He has had a miserable past year and being alone must have made it even tougher. Had he had a wife or kids? If he mentioned it I don't recall.

Gotta share this amusing bit. Before Phil & I became friends & were still exchanging barbs he'd said something about me that made me laugh & thinking about it now makes me smile. He was aware that in my group I sometimes move topics to a more appropriate forum in this group. To a spot where I think it belongs instead of where it'd first appeared. What's amusing to me is that this thread about Phil's passing first appeared in our Xpressions forum & I'd moved it to the In Memoriam forum. Now every time I view it I can hear Phil saying, "Geez, he's at it again." In reference to what he'd once said about my habit of moving content. He'd said, "He's like an old woman moving her furniture around."

SK, thoughtful move there, preserving Phil's group homepage.
