This a.m. I walked around the yard pulling dandelion flowers off before they could go to seed. One plant's seeds could make 20 more plants next year. Did the same thing yesterday. Both days I got about 50 flowers. And I'll keep at it till those're done blooming.
Also today I raked our yard clean of many pine twigs & cones. Got a big pile that I carried to the burn ring & set on fire. Just ashes now.
Then I got my ladder out & cleaned the house's gutters. Those are only on two sides of the roof above the front entrance. About 18 ft of them. Got four 2 gallon buckets of pine needles & twigs out of those. Then I poured a bucket of water thru those to rinse out any remaining dirt & needles.
Weather's good for yard work today, sunny 70° with a mild breeze.

More work around here today. Pulled another 50 dandelion flowers by hand early this a.m. Then when I looked outside this afternoon & I saw 50 more! Got smarter though this time. Grabbed the neighbor's weed-eater & chopped the entire plants level with the ground. They're not going to win this war. Then I fixed a front wheel on Carrie's transport chair that was stuck in place, wouldn't pivot. So I tore it apart & found a corroded metal bushing. Cleaned that up with a wire-wheel & lubed it & it works OK now. Then I installed a short grab-bar near our toilet for Carrie to use. I'm beginning to think that my being retired is an illusion.

Oh you were not just doing stems.
Trimming to the ground invigorates Them!

Pete, you wrote, "I'm beginning to think that my being retired is an illusion."
Well actually Pete, you've always done work both inside and outside your house - and that continues. You only retired from chores at the mall where you worked for a paycheck.
And, I gotta tell you - your house rent is about half of what we pay for a one bedroom apartment around here.

Gotta question, Pete. Is a transport chair the same thing as a wheel chair?

Henry, well, the dandelions that keep coming back invigorate me to keep up the attack.

Sandy, long story but I'll keep it short. When we were looking for a new place to live I'd thought I'd never find a house for rent in this upper-middle class neighborhood that we could afford. The rents here normally are in the $500 to $1,000 range.
But then I saw an ad for this house for $375. And I'd thought, Yeah right, probably some old shack. But we went to look at it anyway. When we got here I'd said, "Wow, this is nice!" Getting an inside look I said it again.
That was 13 years ago. Still here & still liking it.

Sandy, a transport chair is similar to a wheel chair except it's pushed by someone for the rider. You can see it below. And below that you can see how it folds up so I can put it in the back of my Jeep.

Coincidentally, I saw 3 or 4 of those transport chairs being unfolded, used, and re-folded while waiting outside of the doctors office for my wife. My wife also told me that our daughter has one and my wife has used it once or twice. DUH! I don't even know what's going on around my own house.

Dave, what can't be seen in the lower photo is two straps between the upper legs for carrying.
Also, I couldn't find an exact photo for that lower one. It's missing the foot supports which unlock, swing to the sides & clip-on to the lower legs.

Pete the neighbor's yard in Ohio use to be covered in dandelion's. Every time I seen one in my yard I dug it up roots and all. This happened every single summer and it was a pain in my arse to do the whole yard, but I did it.

Anna, yeah, it's getting to be a pain going after dandelions. Been going at it about 4 days now. And it seems that the more I go after 'em the more that pop up.
Just came back inside from the yard using the weed-eater & chopping about 100 more.

AND DIGGING UP LEAVES A NICE PLACE FOR WEEDS TO GROW.

Hi Swampygal, - Just wanna say that your picture doesn't match your name. You look far more sophisticated than that name would imply.
