Something funny going on. Yesterday I noticed that my group logo wasn't showing, up there in the top-left corner. An image linked to my screenshot hosting site. So I uploaded it into my laptop's files then uploaded it to this group's file...& there it is. Then I saw instead of emoticons in our posts the keyboard characters that create those. What's odd is that when I add an emoticon to my text box I see the actual image. Below I see one scratching its head. But once my post is submitted & appears on the board I then see keyboard characters instead. What do you see below? Checked my admin image files & all the images are there. So why aren't I seeing those in my & your posts? Well, just viewed this post after it was on the board & I see the emoticon. But, when I view this thread I see keyboard characters where an emoticon should be. Hmm, most puzzling.

Pete, I see your actual emoticon above - no keyboard characters. Wonder if those are glitches that only affects the administrator? One glitch I've noticed for a few days is that after composing a message, if I click the Review button, nothing happens. It is a dead link.

Pete you're using Firefox correct ? if so I've been having problems with it rendering pictures for the last week though I haven't had problems in here with icons or thumbprints.
I finally gave up on firefox and downloaded Opera and all pictures are showing up and unlike firefox which crashes after watching 30 minutes of, Opera hasn't crash once.

Sandy, I too can see the emoticon in my initial post. Did you click-on the link in my post? It's in that thread that I don't see anything but keyboard characters. As for the Preview button: it does work but you'll see no difference in your post if it's simply plain text, without any BBCode.. I offered an explanation of the Preview button in the past, you can find it here.

Nancy, to double-check would you click-on the link in my initial post & tell me if you see the emoticons in there? I'm not sure that you have.
And yeah, I'm using Firefox 56.0, 64 bit.

Pete I'm in Opera right now and I'm seeing both the emotions in that thread along with your Xtreme logo. In firefox I was also able to see both but like I said firefox has been having problems loading images for the last week for me. Some of the times the image shows up, other times it won't load and all I see is what you see, the description of the image.
The loading of images and firefox crashing all of the time has been a topic of discussion for atleast the last few firefox updates in the firefox usenet group. It wasn't until the last update that I really noticed how images weren't loading, though firefox has been crashing for me since 3 or 4 updates ago.

Nancy, thanks for your input about Firefox, it saves me the time & effort of tweaking image files in this group. Which is where I'd thought the problem might be.

Is Opera just for Mac users or can Win7 users use it too? TIA I have a W7 pc and I'm using Opera right now and liking it a lot more then firefox. I'm just so tired of watching live streaming at explore.org for awhile and then trying to load facebook or gmail only to have firefox crash. I've been in and out of explore, gmail & facebook all day today and have had no crashes. When I installed Opera I choose the custom option and to install all of my bookmarks from my default browser so everything is set up pretty much the same as firefox. I did have to install a different gmail notifier then I use in firefox, one that's just called "notifier for gmail" but it does the same as my x-notifier in firefox did. The only thing I need to get use to is the menu up in the left corner of Opera that has all ofthe options and my bookmarks.

Pete, I can see your emoticon in the first post in this thread fine on my Chromebook. In the other thread that you cited, I used "Quick Reply" and did not bother with an emoticon, just these keyboard characters:
;-)
I am using Quick Reply for this post also.

Cathy, so you're foolin' with me--purposely using characters instead of the image. I'm thinking that's what the other posters did too. You used a semi-colon, dash, parentheses to indicate a winking smiley. You can create the actual image by eliminating the dash. ;)

Cathy, well you solved it, there is no emoticon problem. The posters in that other thread also purposely used keyboard characters rather than choosing an actual emoticon. For example: someone used this : ) instead of the characters that create a smiling emoticon.

Nancy, you had said :"...unlike firefox which crashes after watching 30 minutes of, Opera..."
You left out a word there, 30 mins of what?

missing words are "live streaming video".
Firefox in the last few updates has started using up alot of ram memory while viewing live streaming which is I'm assuming why it crashes after watching for awhile.
