There's another way to use the Quote feature besides clicking-on the Quote button above each post in a thread for those who've been having trouble quoting that way.
Instead you can copy the text you want included in a quote by clicking-on Reply (not Quick Reply) & then click-on the Quote button to the left of the smiley face, before you began typing your reply. That will bring up these tags:
(quote)insert quote here(/quote)
You'd then highlight & delete 'insert quote here'. Next, paste the quoted text between the quote tags. Your cursor will be between those so there's no need to move it.
Then move your cursor to the right of the last quote tag. Skip two spaces & type your reply & when posted the quote will show like it does below. But will be above your text.
Yeah, it takes a lil' more effort but it eliminates the quote problem some of you have had using the other method.

Under Help
Choosing your default posting editor
I think this where the root is, why some see different options.

Pete, that was one of the first things I thought to try, but couldn't find the quote icon because I was looking for it among the 15 icons on the left side and not next to the smiley's on the right. As you can see, I was able to quote (above) the first sentence of your post but, there were no quote brackets like the ones you described - (quote)insert quote here(/quote), just the words "insert quote here," Anyhow, I 'm pretty sure that quote brackets look like this [] and not this ().
While I was able to delete and exit the box, that method doesn't identify who I am quoting, so I will see if I can do that below, starting with

Henry, where is the default post editor? Plus, are you able to quote an entire post, one that gives credit to the author? The method whereby I boxed in one of Pete's sentences and you boxed in one word doesn't come close to doing that.

Once again, I cannot use preview to check out any of this.

Well, it looks like I'm going with Number 3. I've never seen anything like this at any forum I've ever posted in.
Yo David, don't you use this forum format at Phil's. If so, how do you quote and how, pray tell, can you preview what you have written. In my view, those are 2 serious dysfunctions.

I very seldom quote though.
As far as preview I just hit preview. It stays on the same page so it doesn't look like it changed. Then I go back to BBCode if I need to correct anything.
After a while the forum will get easier to use. I have been using ProBoards for years so it easy for me. A lot I learned from trial and error.
Here is what it looks like when I hit preview

David, I get the same result as you when you quoted me above. HOWEVER, when I try to respond to a quote, my response stays IN the quote box, itself. I cannot write outside the quote box, itself. Do you know why that is? Or more important, do you know what I can do to fix it?

I don't know. Put your cursor after the [/quote] and start typing. Hit your return 2 or 3 times to get down further. Not that it matters but you want be so jammed up.

Also, I think that once I submit this response, the spaces won't remain. will creep up closer to the quote, itself. I have also used a dashed line to indicate end of quote, so let's see how that works.

When you hit Quote it should look like this and you start typing after [/quote] That is the way it works for me. Maybe it is something in your settings.
