Sandy, my intention all along has only been to help you with a frustrating problem. It was frustrating for me as well since I couldn't figure out how to do that. My PM to you wasn't a reprimand but my contacting you personally about an error you'd made so as to not bring it to everyone's attention, to avoid embarrassing you. Yes, there has been some misunderstanding along the way, but these things happen. Have a pleasant evening.

After giving it some thought, I think perhaps "Preview" doesn't mean the same thing in this group as it did in the old group. I think here it means "What you see is what you get." In other words, you don't have to take the extra step of previewing to make sure things like the bold and italics work correctly.
I am going to turn on the bold and italics now: I can see the bold and italics in this text as I type it. In the old group, you would have had to hit "Preview" to see that effect instead of the code for it.

Good point, Cathy. I could personally see bold and italics as I composed a message chez 4.0, but not any larger font that I may have chosen to use. Perhaps there have always been browser differences in what we see when using code in both forums. I have to wonder though, what function "Preview" has here, or if, for that matter, it works in some way on browsers other than Chrome and Safari.
As you mentioned in another post, when I first downloaded the Chrome browser onto the Mac, I was recognized and everything transferred from the Chromebook, inluding bookmarks. I never use the CB because my poor eyes are much happier with the Mac's 21.5" screen and with a larger keyboard/lettering.
Finally, everything I use daily, including lots more bookmarks, is set up on the Safari browser, so it would be a real PITA to switch browsers every time I post here. Soooo - I will need to continue to improvise when using quote.

Sandy why would it be a PITA to switch browsers ? all you need to do is open Chrome while you're in your safari browser and then minimize chrome while you're doing things in safari. When you want to visit this group just maximize chrome and when you're finished in here then minimize chrome again.

LOL Nancy. I honestly don't know how to do any of that, i.e open a browser while in another, maximize and minimize one or the other, etc. Is that a windows thing?
I have always been upfront about the fact that I am technically challenged, which is why I own a Mac. Plus, I have never had the need to do something like that and don't know if it is worthwhile for me to learn in order to use the quote function in one particular forum.
I appreciate the info, though and perhaps I will look into the logistics of how to do that sometime if I can think of more ways it would be useful to me.

Sandy here are the directions for minimizing and maximizing on a Mac- www.dummies.com/computers/macs/how-to-minimize-a-window-on-a-mac/It looks like the minimize button is slightly different on a Mac then on a windows pc. It's the minus icon in this graphic- on a windows pc the minus icon is in the upper right side of the browser and it's white.

Thanks, Nancy, I'll give it a go when I can ditch the current prevailing feeling that everything I try to do only seems to make matters worse, or create new issues I didn't have before. I call it PHHA - Post Hurricane Harvey Anxiety. I hope to regain my positive, can do attitude soon.

I didn't realize that anybody could see bold and italicized text as they composed a post in Pete's old group. That's interesting. I had to click on "preview" to see it there.

P.S. I suspect that the Preview/BBC code buttons just tell you what mode you are in and perhaps allow you to switch back and forth when composing a post. I'm not going to try it because I don't know jack about the BBC code. Maybe somebody else will check it out.

Cathy, I got curious and clicked onto the BBCode,. I worried that I would regret it, but nothing happened. Nada!! For me, it was just another dead button, like preview.
And yes, I always saw bold and italics while posting at ye olde Scorpion. Pete's shutting down tapatalk today and out of curiosity, I checked there and noticed that there is no quote icon showing on individual posts.

When you are making a post and you want to see a Preview you have to scroll up to see the results. If you just click Preview and don't scroll up you will not see any change. Reply on BBCode and under that is Reply on Preview.

Oh, yeah, I can flip back and forth between Preview and the BBCode on Chrome. I don't have to scroll up, though.
Thanks, David.

I am just saying scroll up cause that maybe why some thinks the button is dead. If I didn't scroll up I would the the button was dead.
I looked at the board on my MacBook Air using Safari and everything was the same as on my Linux computer. Quote and all that stuff worked fine.
